Just like the previous two years, Sagittarius has some serious matters to deal with in 2017. But this year problems are easier to solve and duties easier to get free from.

Saturn entered Sagittarius in September 2015 and will stay in the sign until mid-December of 2017. It is the planet of duty and obligations, but also of authority and tradition.

Its influence is not pleasant, but often necessary. It brings order to chaos and discipline to the disorderly. It has the force of the ruler, making no compromises.

So, it has always been regarded as a negative force, but the world would be a mess without it.

Balls and Chains

Saturn does not fit at all in Sagittarius, the sign of freedom, independence and revolt. They are very close to complete opposites.

So, Sagittarius will have a frustrating time while Saturn is within its bounds. Obligations limit freedom and things become much more serious than Sagittarius is comfortable with.

Saturn returns to the same Zodiac sign every 30 years, approximately. For the individual, the Saturn return signifies the end of one period of life and the start of another. Usually, we only have time for two of those.

But that is the Saturn returning to the position it had in your birth chart, whatever the sign might have been. Here, though, we deal with Saturn influencing directly those with the sun sign Sagittarius.

I doubt that there are many Sagittarians pleased with this influence. Most will see it as a disturbance, as balls and chains limiting their movability. They are right, of course, but the restrictions Saturn introduces have their reasons.

So, you have to learn to live with it – and long for 2018, when it will all be over.

Some Ease for Sagittarius in 2017

In the 2017 New Year horoscope, Saturn has two aspects to other planets: a sextile (60°) to Jupiter in Libra and a trine (120°) to Uranus in Aries. Both those aspects are regarded as benevolent. That eases the blow of Sagittarius having to struggle with the stern Saturn.

These are significant aspects, since both Jupiter and Uranus are outer planets. So, aspects with them are not frequent. That’s particularly true for Uranus, taking over 80 years to make its orbit around the sun. For Jupiter it is 12 years.

The sextile to Jupiter makes it easier for Sagittarius to make the decisions called for by Saturn. All kinds of deals work smoothly. So does following rules and regulations, although Sagittarius is normally reluctant to such limitations. The strain of the demands brought by Saturn is eased this year by Jupiter making even complicated things smoothly finding their solution.

The trine to Uranus brings ideas to the table – great ideas, clever solutions, insights in how to manage through the maze of demands and obligations. And they have the additional value of leading, bit by bit, to increased independence for Sagittarius.

So, although Saturn remains in Sagittarius until the end of 2017 with the burdens it brings, this year the burdens are much easier to carry than previous years – and easier to get rid of.
